About
Shalom and welcome. My name is Amy and some of my friends call me Amelah.
This is a blog on Judaism, Israel, Jews, life and politics. I've been blogging under the blog name "Thoughts from a rabbi" since 2003. I recently decided to merge this blog with my personal website, so you will soon see the URL change from the WordPress http://1rabbi.wordpress.com to http://amygreenbaum.com/blog.
As Jeff Pulver (@jeffpulver) regularly tweets, the web is about listening, connecting and contributing. You are welcome to do all three on this site.
(Please note that the blogs and websites linked on this site are linked for various reasons. I do not necessarily share the opinions of the webmasters.)

Hey,
Thank you for linking to our site.
I just wanted to bring to your attention our new and improved Blog.
We had some problems with the previous one but have now totally rethought and retooled the Blog,
making it much cooler and interactive- at least we hope so.
This is still the official Blog of the state of Israel, the only state Blog out there.
If you don’t recall the previous one was http://www.israelvideoblog.org – and now: http://www.isrealli.org (see below).
It’s now edited by our team of young professionals here at the Israeli Consulate in NY.
Let us know what you think?

Shalom Rabi!
I enjoyed reading your blog! it’s very well writen and interesting.
I’ve been in Israel twice in holidays for 5 months in 2007, and all Macrch 2008, and what can i say.. i am completely inloved for the people, the country, the culture and the religion!
I am Portuguese, 22 years old, and the reason why i found Israel and the Jewish in my life was because my girlfriend is Israelian. We met here in Portugal 1 1/2 year ago, and since the first time we looked to each other, that our eyes met, it was love at the first sight Since then, she has been in Portugal twice, and i’ve gone to Israel twice also. We have been just some months separated, but we think it was good to test if what we were doing was what we really wanted, and we found we can’t live far from each other.
I can speak and write 5 languages correctly: Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Italian. And im also learning the Hebrew, but i’m learning by myself, although i know already many stuff – the basics.
I know the country, i traveled through all Israel except Eilat!
I know a lot of Israelians that worked and work here in Portugal (Dead Sea Products), all young people between the 20 and 30 years of age, i help them always with all the kind of stuff that they need and they really love me. i also know a lot of people in Netanya, where my girlfriend lives.
Now… i am not Jewish. Portugal is a country where half of the 11 million population descends from Jewish, and my grandfather also descend (he died in December 2007) , but the most part of the people don’t know it, as this is a Cristian country, and the parents that had Jewish blood didnt even told to their sons, so it got lost through generations.
I have the appearence of an Israelian, people tell me i look like Jewish so i can presume that if there is descendents in Portugal – so i’m one of them.´
After my visits to Israel, where i passed Pesar, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Purim, and many other religious holidays, and all the Shabatt etc. i even gone to a Hatuna, and Shabatt Hatan! i enjoyed so much, and i felt something inside me that i can’t explain. And all the time i’m in Israel i feel i have some connection with the country, that holy land…
I’m studding Advocacy in University, and i work as receptionist in a Classic Hotel in my city (PORTO) in part-time, but i’m not satisfied…
I want to convert to Judaism, by many reasons, of course i meditated, i thought a lot about this decision, for months and months, and i’m gonna make it!
And me and my girlfriend (she is 24 already, she’s not a kid) we both think the best option for us would be that i immigrate to Israel. i want that so much!
Sooo, i could be here writing you about me, about israel, and Judaism for hours, i dont even know where to start! I just would like that you give me some advices, and if you could, i would aprecciate very much if you could give me contacts of places, or sites, that i can call or contact, that will help me study to become Jewish and immigrate.
With my best regards,
Mikhael, Pedro

Shalom and Hi Rabbi:
I just came across your site from a Google search on Pesach / Passover websites. I’m a convert – to reading your blog, that is.
I have a Pesach / Passover website and am now beginning a blog on the Jewish festivals / holidays. I write from a neutral viewpoint – simply describing the various streams of Jewish perspectives on the Jewish festivals and holidays. A sense of community characterizes my website/blog objective. Keep up the great work and I’ll check back for updates to your blog. Nice header photo; I’d like to know the name of that location.
All the best, Eli Ha-Levi, BA, M.L.I.S. (professional librarian)

B”H
Hi,
I was wondering where you have learned?
From whom did you receive “semicha” {as it is called today}?
July 29th, 2009 - 19:29
Oh, I received training in Hebrew school a long time ago when I was growing up plus my continuing interest in the field over a lifetime characterized by self-study combined with my own thoughts culminated in what I know today. My great-grandfather was a Lithuanian Gaon from Vilna, the capital of Lithuania, and he emigrated to Eretz Yisrael in the 1930′s and is intermented on Har Ha-Zeitim (Perushim section of the General Chevra Kadisha) near three biblical prophets: Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. His was one of the monuments that was taken by the Jordanians to be used as pavement in the road they built through Har Ha-Zeitim after 1948 and was re-dedicated by the Israelis in 1967 after the Six-Day War. One day I plan to return to Eretz Yisrael, G-d willing. My last visit was in the summer of 1980 when I worked on a Kibbutz in the Negev Desert and toured the rest of the country. Genetically, I’m two parts Levi, one part Kohen, and one part Yisrael, but no Binyamin in my ancestry to my current knowledge.

I just seriously prefer what we should post in this article. Very new not to mention wise. A single challenge though. I’m running Internet explorer with the help of Debian not to mention components with the existing page layout products would be a bit wonky. I just know it’s not really typical developed. Yet still it’s something towards retain in view. I just trust that going barefoot can guidance not to mention always keep in the main good penning.
